You need money to survive the hardships of life on the run with a bunch of equally depraved gang members (okay, well, maybe not little Jack) living with you. Once you’ve completed chapter 1 and unlocked a Fence then you may want to scavenge an old train wreck site for some gold bars and other assorted valuables. Be warned, though!

This involves climbing and maneuvering in narrow areas at deathly heights. It has been recommended you not attempt this if the in-game weather decides to screw you over and rain the entire time you’re in the area.

Now that that little disclaimer is out of the way, let’s make some money! First off, the starting point…

You’ll want to mosey your way into Ambarino, in the Grizzlies East territory near Cotorra Springs. On your map, near the springs, you’ll see a railway that has two arrow shapes in it, indicating a tunnel. Like >—-< that.

My recommendation is that you park your happy ass right here and save your game NOW. Because if you fall and break your neck during this little adventure, you’ll want to spawn back close to your starting point. This is the eastern entrance to the railroad tunnel we discussed earlier.

Once you’ve saved, cross the tracks and head up the hill and to the left.

Once you’ve topped the hill and made almost a U-turn, survey your surroundings. There should be an evergreen tree standing off to itself, past the top of the tunnel. (The above screenshot should help.) Go to that tree.

Immediately to the right of the lonely tree (see the trunk in the screenshot?) there is a divot in the ground that you will slowly and carefully slide down into. Don’t keep your left thumb stick held forward, or you’re just going to vomit yourself right off a cliff. Just an easy little fall down into that gap is all you need.

Pardon this particularly crappy screenshot, but this is to Arthur’s immediate right after falling into the divot. Crouch and hug that wall to snake your way around that little ledge.

A ledge which will open up and lead you to this slightly larger ledge. Still, be careful here. Head down toward that clump of bushes.

At the clump of bushes, you’ll want to climb up onto the ledge at the right, and stay close to the wall (crouched) again as you work your way around.

Here’s he part that’s likely to piss you off. You’ll notice that I’m still crouched and on that ledge. There are two ways to progress past this point. You can either sprint and jump across the gap to the right of the screenshot (it’s just barely out of frame) OR go with Plan B. If you fail the sprint and jump, and you miraculously don’t die, you’ll be doing Plan B anyway.

I had to go with Plan B because I failed the jump (what’s new..?) and slid down onto that ridge where that single tree is from our last screenshot.

Regardless of whether you chose Plan B for simplicity or if you were forced into it, once you’re on the single tree ridge, you’ll notice a gap on the ridge. Run and jump it!

If you actually made the original sprint and jump, you’d end up going around that ledge a little further and dropping down onto this one…or if you went Plan B, you just ran and jumped the ridge gap to end up here. Kudos! The end is in sight!

But don’t feel confident yet, because the jump from this ledge to the train car opening is tricky. You may come up short and fall to your death, or you may get overzealous, miss the opening, and fall to your death. So just be careful with this jump!

Once you manage to finagle yourself into the train car, you’ll just drop down from platform to platform until you reach the bottom.

Down there, you’ll find a good bar in the corner (where my Arthur is standing in the screenshot) plus another gold bar and some other things in the box nearby.

If you want some extra loot for all the hard work you did navigating those ledges, you’re in luck!

Turn around and climb out the window of the train car once you have your hold and such. It’s a short drop that Arthur can handle. Once you’re outside, look for the yellow train car that’s upside down…

There ya go! Head over to it, and go left once you’re in the door. (Don’t be like me and go right and end up getting stuck there for a good three minutes…)

There will be a box you can pull out and loot! It has some money and jewelry bag in it, so not a bad find!

Once you’ve taken all the loot, you can head outside and (if your horse has bonded to you enough) call your steed down and ride off to your favorite Fence to sell your scavenged goods. Then, either go upgrade your camp or treat yourself to some new guns or clothes, or even a night of binge drinking!
