RDR2: Fairvale Shanty Gold

Hey everyone! Last night I actually stumbled upon another gold site. It won’t make you rich, but it does hold a few small valuables and a cigarette card outside as well.

In Ambarino, in the Grizzlies East territory, you’ll find a site called “Fairvale Shanty.” Sorry, the screenshot below hadn’t loaded the site name yet AND I had a bounty for some accidental murder…

You’ll want to head to the marker over Arthur’s Horse, not the giant red bounty blob.

In a field of very lovely flowers, you’ll find a tiny little shack with a dead body outside. Your mini-map may actually alert you that you’re here before you even see the shack, especially in the rain. That’s because the mini-map will show two gun icons here. (They’re just two Cattlemen Revolvers…nothing to get your panties twisted over.)

Outside the shack, on the barrel by the door, you’ll find a cigarette card to collect. Inside will be another dead guy and a makeshift desk with a lock box on it to be looted.

Once you crack that lockbox open, you’ll find a platinum pocket watch, gold nugget, and a piece of jewelry! Not too bad a haul for some random exploring. Take it all to a fence and hawk it for a nice little reward! (Or donate it to camp, your choice.)

RDR2: Strange Statues Gold!

Hey all, I sincerely apologize for not updating this Saturday. Life gets in the way and I’m sure y’all don’t wanna hear my excuses, so let’s dive right on into this guide!

So, who wants a cool $1,500 in the form of three gold bars!? The process to do this takes some time if you want to do it the legitimate way, but anyone who wants to skip straight to getting the moolah, scroll down and keep an eye out for the word “SOLUTION” in bold below.

Alrighty! So the state of Ambarino actually has a LOT of nifty things to explore, and the Strange Statues interest yields a good amount of gold for your efforts. To get started, you’ll want to visit a lovely place called “Window Rock,” which you can find on the map below.

You’ll be heading Northwest of Fort Wallace and climbing the Window Rock formation until you see the, aptly named, window.

Stand in that window and turn left to see some funky native “cave” painting. Arthur will jot down a sketch of the centerpiece of the painting in his journal. Now, some guides said to study the painting hard but I honestly still don’t understand how they found the answer from this painting…

After you get finished taking in the awesome view from Window Rock, you’ll want to head East.

The cave with the Strange Statues is slightly beneath the I in Ambarino.

The entrance looks like an ass crack…haha! It’s super easy to miss, too. I must have rode past that thing about three times…

Just past the cave entrance you’ll see the aforementioned Statues. A bunch of nude dudes surrounding a sphinx, I think? Anywho, here’s the easiest way to get the gold:

THE SOLUTION

Once you’re in the chamber with the Statues, turn around to face the entrance you just walked through. The first Statue that you’ll push the button on is the Statue to the left of the entrance, as shown below.

Now, you’re going to be moving counter-clockwise (left) around the Statues. After you have pushed that first button, skip the next statue you come to, and go to the next one down. Push that button, then the button on the next Statue as well. Skip the next Statue, then push the button on the Statue after that.

Put into words, that’s really freaking confusing, so take a look at the diagram below for some help. The arrow is the cave entrance. Do NOT push the buttons on the Statues with an X over them.

Make more sense that way? I hope so. If you mess up, you can go to the back of the Statue and press the button there to “undo” the mistake.

After the fourth Statue’s button is pressed, the secret stash should be open on the Sphinx Statue.

If it’s open, run up and grab those three gold bars! Then you can visit your favorite fence and get a total of $1,500 for all three!

I hope this helps y’all out, and again, I’m sorry for the delay.

RDR2: Easy Money!! — January 19, 2019

RDR2: Easy Money!!

Alrighty! So, once you finish the prologue of Chapter 1, you’ll notice that money is pretty tight around camp, and things are looking more like a shanty town than an actual gang camp. There’s a pretty easy way to remedy this, though! Especially if you have some time and patience. There are random gold bars (and a few gold nuggets and ingot) hidden around the world in Red Dead Redemption 2, listed on no treasure map.

YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE A FENCE UNLOCKED TO SELL THE GOLD!

Truly, cannot stress this enough. Unless you’re going to put a $300-$500 gold bar directly into the camp box, go find a fence you can sell those things to. If you’ve already done the mission with Hosea at Emerald Ranch, then you should have that fence unlocked. Otherwise, there is a pretty good one in St Denis, disguised as an antiques shop near the market where the Trapper likes to peddle his wares.

Assuming you’ve met the prerequisite of knowing a fence to sell this shit to, let’s move on!

1.) You’ll find some valuables very close to your camp in Horseshoe Overlook. There’s a Brushfire Site and an old burnt down town called Limpany where you can find some goods. You can find the details here: https://nomorebsguides.home.blog/2019/01/19/rdr2-limpany-brushfire-gold/

2.) The old Train Wreck Site, while incredibly tricky to navigate without croaking, yields a good score! Find the details here: https://nomorebsguides.home.blog/2019/01/19/rdr2-train-wreck-gold/

3.) Secret Statues. Three gold bars! Get the details here: https://nomorebsguides.home.blog/2019/01/22/rdr2-strange-statues-gold/

4.) Fairvale Shanty site. A small reward but still worth it in my opinion. A gold nugget, a pocket watch, and a piece of jewelry. Get the details here: https://nomorebsguides.home.blog/2019/01/22/rdr2-fairvale-shanty-gold/

RDR2: Train Wreck Gold —

RDR2: Train Wreck Gold

You need money to survive the hardships of life on the run with a bunch of equally depraved gang members (okay, well, maybe not little Jack) living with you. Once you’ve completed chapter 1 and unlocked a Fence then you may want to scavenge an old train wreck site for some gold bars and other assorted valuables. Be warned, though!

This involves climbing and maneuvering in narrow areas at deathly heights. It has been recommended you not attempt this if the in-game weather decides to screw you over and rain the entire time you’re in the area.

Now that that little disclaimer is out of the way, let’s make some money! First off, the starting point…

You’ll want to mosey your way into Ambarino, in the Grizzlies East territory near Cotorra Springs. On your map, near the springs, you’ll see a railway that has two arrow shapes in it, indicating a tunnel. Like >—-< that.

My recommendation is that you park your happy ass right here and save your game NOW. Because if you fall and break your neck during this little adventure, you’ll want to spawn back close to your starting point. This is the eastern entrance to the railroad tunnel we discussed earlier.

Once you’ve saved, cross the tracks and head up the hill and to the left.

Once you’ve topped the hill and made almost a U-turn, survey your surroundings. There should be an evergreen tree standing off to itself, past the top of the tunnel. (The above screenshot should help.) Go to that tree.

Immediately to the right of the lonely tree (see the trunk in the screenshot?) there is a divot in the ground that you will slowly and carefully slide down into. Don’t keep your left thumb stick held forward, or you’re just going to vomit yourself right off a cliff. Just an easy little fall down into that gap is all you need.

Pardon this particularly crappy screenshot, but this is to Arthur’s immediate right after falling into the divot. Crouch and hug that wall to snake your way around that little ledge.

A ledge which will open up and lead you to this slightly larger ledge. Still, be careful here. Head down toward that clump of bushes.

At the clump of bushes, you’ll want to climb up onto the ledge at the right, and stay close to the wall (crouched) again as you work your way around.

Here’s he part that’s likely to piss you off. You’ll notice that I’m still crouched and on that ledge. There are two ways to progress past this point. You can either sprint and jump across the gap to the right of the screenshot (it’s just barely out of frame) OR go with Plan B. If you fail the sprint and jump, and you miraculously don’t die, you’ll be doing Plan B anyway.

I had to go with Plan B because I failed the jump (what’s new..?) and slid down onto that ridge where that single tree is from our last screenshot.

Regardless of whether you chose Plan B for simplicity or if you were forced into it, once you’re on the single tree ridge, you’ll notice a gap on the ridge. Run and jump it!

If you actually made the original sprint and jump, you’d end up going around that ledge a little further and dropping down onto this one…or if you went Plan B, you just ran and jumped the ridge gap to end up here. Kudos! The end is in sight!

But don’t feel confident yet, because the jump from this ledge to the train car opening is tricky. You may come up short and fall to your death, or you may get overzealous, miss the opening, and fall to your death. So just be careful with this jump!

Once you manage to finagle yourself into the train car, you’ll just drop down from platform to platform until you reach the bottom.

Down there, you’ll find a good bar in the corner (where my Arthur is standing in the screenshot) plus another gold bar and some other things in the box nearby.

If you want some extra loot for all the hard work you did navigating those ledges, you’re in luck!

Turn around and climb out the window of the train car once you have your hold and such. It’s a short drop that Arthur can handle. Once you’re outside, look for the yellow train car that’s upside down…

There ya go! Head over to it, and go left once you’re in the door. (Don’t be like me and go right and end up getting stuck there for a good three minutes…)

There will be a box you can pull out and loot! It has some money and jewelry bag in it, so not a bad find!

Once you’ve taken all the loot, you can head outside and (if your horse has bonded to you enough) call your steed down and ride off to your favorite Fence to sell your scavenged goods. Then, either go upgrade your camp or treat yourself to some new guns or clothes, or even a night of binge drinking!

RDR2: Limpany & Brushfire Gold —

RDR2: Limpany & Brushfire Gold

To get some easy money fast after you complete chapter 1 and unlock a fence, head over to the Brushfire Site and the Limpany Site to grab so,e gold and start upgrading your camp, weapons, clothes, etc. Both of these sites are incredibly close to Horseshoe Overlook, and really easy to find.

First, Brushfire Site.

Seriously, it’s two shakes of a lamb’s tail from camp!

As you’re riding down the path, like you’re going toward the water, you’ll see a patch of badly burnt forest on your right. Head into it, and you’ll see an old wagon and campsite. Within the campsite, there will be a lock box containing a gold nugget and a couple other small, every day items.

Once you snag the nugget, ground coffee, and other item, you can head on toward Limpany…

Now, Limpany Site.

My marker in the above screenshot is right on Limpany. It’s to the Southwest of camp, below the ridge that Horseshke Overlook sits on. It, too, is a burnt up area, with not much left to its ruins. However, the Sheriff’s office holds a valuable secret!

The only building that wasn’t obviously consumed with fire is the stone jailhouse at the back of the “town,” for lack of a better word. To the right of the jail is the sheriff office. Head inside, then go behind the desk on the left. There will be a lock box beneath the desk, containing gold. Score!

At this point, you can either head on over to your favorite Fence to sell off the gold, or you can go to the perilous Train Wreck Site for two more gold bars. Your choice. Just don’t forget to save after you get your Brushfire and Limpany gold!

RDR2: Don’t Sell These!! — January 18, 2019

RDR2: Don’t Sell These!!

So, apparently, you can sell (or donate) things that you really ought to hold onto in this game. Irritating!

My husband told me that at some point, Mary-Beth will ask for a pen. I’m assuming the pen you get from Jimmy Brooks (a.k.a The Man From Blackwater) is the right one, and it even says “unique item” beneath the pen…but you can still donate or sell it?! Anywho…

Here’s a list of crap you’re going to have clogging your inventory up for a bit, assuming you want to take advantage of the awesome trinkets and talismans you can have crafted at the Fence (and that you want to make the other gang members happy by granting their item requests.)

Talisman and Trinket Ingredients

  • Gold joined bracelet
  • Vintage civil war handcuffs
  • Quartz chunk
  • Silver chain bracelet
  • Abalone shell fragment
  • Silver earring
  • Cobalt petrified wood
  • Gold earring
  • Old brass compass

Gang-Member Requests

  • Hair pomade for Bill
  • Silver locket necklace for Tilly
  • Thimble and a Penny Dreadful (some sort of comic I guess? Haven’t done that one, only read about it) for Jack
  • Pipe for Dutch
  • Silver pocket watch for Lenny (again, haven’t done this one yet, but read about it)

Crafting Ingredients

  • Flight feather – GET AS MANY OF THESE AS YOU CAN! You need them for literally any sort of arrow crafting, and you’ll be wanting those arrows. Massacre all the flying birds. (Hint, turkeys don’t have flight feathers so no need in fussing with them.)
  • Owl, Eagle, and Hawk feather – these are used for improving your tomahawks once you get some.
  • Animal fat – used for crafting fire bottles and improving some arrows or ammo.
  • Moonshine, Gin, Guarma rum,Fine brandy, Kentucky bourbon – aside from being useful as tonics, you craft fire bottles with them.

Food

  • Big game meat – without giving too much away, plot wise, you’ll want to save your quality food such as plain and seasoned Big Game meat for later in the story. So scarf down that stringy meat, bird meat, and regular size game meat in the early story, and save the big stuff.
RDR2: Things to Know —

RDR2: Things to Know

Alright, so the tutorial in Red Dead Redemption 2 can be a bit lacking, and at times misleading. Here are some tips and things you may want to keep in mind when exploring the vast landscape of this game and trying not to lose your shit when you can’t figure things out.

  • HORSE BREAKING: If you take the horse breaking tutorial literally, you’re going to have a bad time… The tutorial makes it seem like, once lassoed, you’re supposed to continuously press the Calm option while getting closer to the horse – of course, if you’re like me, you end up flipping your lid because Arthur runs out of stamina and the core drains completely before you can even mount the damn horse. Well…WRONG! So, you find a horse you want to snag, lasso that nag, (hop off your own horse while keeping your new horse lassoed) press Calm like two or three times at most, then HOP ON IT! While the horse is trying to buck you off, keep your left thumb stick pulled down the entire time, and just rock the stick in the direction Arthur starts to lean (but still, keep the stick down as much as possible.) Props to my husband for helping me figure this out.
  • You can feed your horse while riding it. Just bring up your item wheel, scroll over to Horse, hold your stick left to where it says either Horse Meal or some sort of food item, scroll through your options with the right and left triggers, and let go once you find the treat you want to feed your horse. The horse will keep running so you don’t have to take time to hop off and feed your steed, and without having those stable owners bitch about how skinny your horse is.
  • You can actually DRIVE the trains! This is actually going to come in handy for a challenge where you have to shoot flying birds from a moving train. (Thanks hubby for letting me know this one, too.)
  • In a bind during a gunfight? When your weapon is empty, enter Deadeye mode and you’ll be instantly reloaded!
  • If you tap down on your D-pad, you’ll see your Morality gauge (honor vs. dishonor), but if you hold it down you can change your mini-map preferences. I know they mention this in a tutorial but every time that one popped up, I was in the middle of getting my ass shot off.

UPDATE 1/18/19:

  • So, if a man in shackles runs up to you asking for help, you can shoot the chain of his shackles. As thanks, he will tell you of a potential spot for a robbery. I’ve had this happen twice so far.
  • Giving to the blind, the poor, the homeless, etc. will not only give you some Honor points, but most of the time the person you give money to will give you a gift of snake oil or some other tonic. The random guy who’s always yelling “help a blind man…” out in the middle of nowhere, generally just does some creepy blind prophet type shit though.

That’s all I’ve got for now, but I’ll update as I come across any other useful tips and tricks.
